I am EricD and this is my story

All About Me

About me EricD (yes, I'll tell you about myself )

I am a singer-songwriter and entrepreneur from Quebec. Today, I am introducing myself (EricD) and my musical and artistic universe.

To begin with, I am a bilingual artist. That is to say,  I like to write, compose and produce music in French and English, and this without any preferences for either one. I know that some may say "Make a choice!", but I do what I do, and my creativity works like that! Sometimes in French and sometimes in English!

Now, let's talk about my musical style. Well, that's another story... I'll say I'm a bit like the "mini-wheats" with my romantic frosty side that includes multiple ballads and love songs and broken hearts, but there is also my more Groove-Jazz Rock side with songs that move and shake. I must add that I have a rather powerful voice, which can sometimes be hushed and soft and other times a little hoarse, depending on what I sing. Complicated guy!!! Can you imagine trying to answer when I am asked, "What style of music do you do?"

My music is my passion, and it's based on life, what I hear, observe, feel and the stories I am told. So technically, there is a little bit of everyone's stories in the music I compose because I write it for all of you but also to give a voice to certain social inequalities.

Over a period of 30 years, I have performed in several private events and festivals. But it was really in 2018, when working with the incredible singer-songwriter Nessa Roque that everything changed. From that moment, I decided to jump into the unknown and finalize my musical projects, write new music and make it available to the world (ouch!). With now 6 singles released and co-written on a few others, I intend to keep pace in my creations (which I do) and produce new songs, pushing the boundaries of Lounge, groove, rock and jazz-pop as an independent artist and our private label Productions Java.ca / Java Music.

But believe me when I say: It won't stop there! What has been published is only a fragment and a powerful invitation to the more profound art I have to offer you with a thematic concept album in development for the end of 2023, «Society" and one in 2024, in French "Pour toi". I must say that the creative machine is working at full speed, but I must admit that making a debut as an artist at 50 is not easy because social media and everything else is almost a full-time job! That said, I have a significant advantage. Life experience gives me an incredible pool of true-life events to write about!

My journey

Born in Quebec City, my parents quickly introduced me to various musical styles such as opera, rock, jazz, traditional ballads, soul, jazz and later rhythm & blues, influencing my musical sensibility. At 6, I was a big fan of Elvis Presley, singing my life away to the sound of his songs with my fake guitar and my little boy's dreams. But it was when my parents bought a piano around the age of 12, encouraged by my mother, that I really discovered my musical aspirations. Around the age of 14, I joined the school's big band and played all genres of music, and later with my friends in a garage band as singer and keyboardist. During this time, I started composing and writing ballads that I could play on the piano and rock songs for our band. Around 18, I started playing and singing in various pubs, karaoke bars, and festivals and really discovered that people liked to hear me sing. Wow, these were great times! Then life happened, work life took over my musical career, and I had to pause to raise beautiful kids and did not perform for almost 20 years other than the family gathering and private parties. But inside, the passion was always there and burning to get out.

Finally, 2011 arrived, and my girlfriend (my loving wife today) introduced me to a great musician Daniel Morrissette with whom we formed a trio and played at every opportunity we could. It was the perfect trigger! The musical passion flared up again! The next seven years were filled with many private parties and jam sessions as I wrote and composed new music to add to my famous black book, as Nessa calls it. More than 200 partial or complete songs were written during this period and were never released. And what happened next would be the beginning. In 2018 my dear friend and artist Nessa Roque (whom I did not know then) arrived in my life and opened the black book and its secrets. Nessa and I finalized the song "The Fight" which will also be the album's title produced by our own company: Les Productions Java.ca.

Being a producer exposed me to the required steps in album production (recording, mixing, mastering, video production, marketing and more). In addition, it forced me to take multiple training sessions to understand the "Music Industry" in the modern age

"This is when I realized that I had grown as an artist. It became clear to me that I wanted to be published and have the opportunity to share what I've created and hidden for so long by fear of not being good enough. In reality, I was only disallowing my happiness." "In all honesty, producing this music allowed me to become EricD." Thanks Nessa!

My Creativity

It was listening to artists like Elton John, Billy Joel, Gowan, Lady Gaga, Prince and many others who influenced my style and creativity. That's the kind of music I wanted to play! But having said that, my style keeps evolving, but I just loved the freedom of marrying multiple styles of music and how those outstanding artists expressed themselves, and I do not hesitate to perform their songs during shows.

I don't think I need to say that I love what I do, and from the feedback I get, I'm not the only one 😊!

Thank you to my fans, friends, family, musicians friends, radio stations, curators (playlists), and others who follow me and encourage me on social media or in person, and for all the beautiful messages I receive every time I release a new song!

Thank you for letting me be EricD!
